Dr. Guy Vitaglione
Professor and Chair
Dr Vitaglione’s specialization is in social and developmental psychology. He teaches courses in personality, social psychology, children’s social-emotional development and psychological assessment. His research interests include emotions such as empathy and grief, and the social-emotional impact of electronic media on youths and adults. His most recent project, with a group of students, examines personality predictors of online aggressive behaviors. In 2001 Dr. Vitaglione won a university award for outstanding merit in teaching, research, and service, and in 2006 he was one of the winners of a state-wide EPSCoR research competition. From 2006-2008 he served as the Social Psychology Coordinator on the Convention Committee of the Eastern Psychological Association
Dr. Greg Lieving
Assistant Professor & Behavioral Lab Director
Dr. Lieving’s specialty areas include behavioral psychology, the experimental analysis of human and animal behavior, applied behavior analysis, and research design and methods. He teaches courses in behavior modification, principles of learning, and the biological foundations of behavior. He also directs WVU Tech’s behavioral colony and laboratory. Prior to his position at WVU Tech he served as a behavioral researcher at Johns Hopkins University’s Kennedy-Krieger Institute working with children suffering from behavior disorders such as autism. Dr Lieving has recently been made an ad hoc reviewer of the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis
Dr. Cynthia Hall
Assistant Professor
Dr. Hall’s specialty is in developmental and social psychology with focus on adolescent through adult attachment relationships, interpersonal relationships, social cognition associated with autism spectrum disorders, and terror management theory and emotion regulation. She teaches courses in social development, lifespan development, research methods, and exceptional children. Prior to her position at WVU Tech she taught at Radford University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Hall was awarded an assistantship at the Civitan International Research Center, Sparks Clinics, where she conducted developmental assessments for infants and school-age children presenting with behavioral, developmental, and/or learning concerns.
Alyssa Scott
Behavioral Lab Assistant
Ms. Scott is a junior Psychology major from Boomer, West Virginia. She is a Promise Scholar and is studying psychology to become a school counselor. Her current focus is on helping students in southern West Virginia pursue goals in higher education.
